Becoming a Board Member

BSRAD Board members serve as an important voice for the community. They make decisions on strategic investments that help shape and ensure the well-being of Big Sky. Board members have diverse backgrounds and represent all community members. If you are interested in running for the Board, consider meeting with District staff to find out more.

Resort Tax Board Governance and Election is outlined by Montana Code Annotated, specifically MCA 7.6.1543 and MCA 7.6.1544.

 

BSRAD Board Overview

Five (5) members are elected locally by the voters within the District
All Board members must reside within District boundaries
Board members serve a four-year term without compensation
Elections occur in the the May election in even-numbered years

 

Elections

Elections for Special Purpose Districts are outlined by MCA 13.1.5
The Montana Secretary of State website hosts a whole section dedicated to Elections and Voter Services.

Key dates include:

  • Candidate Filing Opens  – 145 days before election
  • Candidate Filing Closes  – 85 days before election @ 5pm
  • Write-in Candidate Declaration of Intent Filing – 65 days before election
  • Election Day – first Tuesday after the first Monday in May

Candidates will need to fill out a Declaration for Nomination and Oath of Candidacy form and submit them to the county election office prior to the deadline. Gallatin County manages the election.
