Efforts continue on both sides of the county line to bring the creation of a Big Sky Wellness District to voters in May 2026—a key step toward establishing dedicated local funding for essential health and wellness services.
Gallatin County
The process in Gallatin County focuses on creating a new Wellness District within its boundaries. The Big Sky Wellness Coalition needs fewer than 100 additional petition signatures by December 1 for submission to the Gallatin County Elections Office.
Eligible signers must be registered voters and property owners in Gallatin County, with property registered in their own name (signatures from trusts or LLCs are not valid). Petitions can be signed at:
- Big Sky Medical Center
- BSRAD Office
Once petitions are validated, the Gallatin County Commission will vote on a resolution to place the measure on the ballot. Once approved, Gallatin County voters will decide in May 2026 whether to establish the district and dedicate funding for local health and wellness services. At that time, voters will also elect members to serve on the district’s first Board of Trustees.
Madison County
In Madison County, the process involves withdrawing from the Madison Valley Hospital District (MVHD) and then creating a new Big Sky Wellness District.
The Madison County Commission approved the withdrawal petition this week. The Madison Valley Hospital District will now hold a public hearing within 30 days to gather community input. After the hearing, commissioners will have another 30 days to consider a resolution to place both measures on the May 2026 ballot. At that time, voters will also elect members to serve on the district’s first Board of Trustees.
Creating a Big Sky Wellness District would ensure sustainable, long-term funding for local health and wellness services, helping residents access essential care close to home.
