Big Sky Businesses: On behalf of the Big Sky Resort Area District Board of Directors, I wish you a prosperous New Year. We’d also like to thank you for your time and effort collecting the resort tax. The money collected is invested directly back into the Big Sky community and benefits us all in tangible ways from infrastructure and recreation to events and tourism promotion.

Ginna Hermann and I are pleased to welcome new Board Members Jamey Kabisch, Mike Scholz and Jeff Strickler to the Board. Public attendance is welcome at our Board Meetings which are held on the second Wednesday of every month at 11:00 a.m. in the District office.

At our January Board Meeting, the Board discussed resort tax collections when a business ships taxable items purchased in Big Sky to an address outside the District. Resort tax must be collected on all taxable items, regardless of their final destination. Similarly, if a customer contacts a business from outside the District and orders a taxable item, tax must be collected on the transaction. Please note and adhere to this practice in your own business. For clarification on what items are taxable, please refer to the posted governing ordinances on our website at www.bigskyresorttax.com.

Additionally, mark your calendars for the upcoming allocation process. The Application Deadline is April 4th, the Question and Answer Session is May 9th and the Final Appropriations Meeting is June 13th. Applications are available on the website.

Please contact our office with questions you encounter as a resort tax collector and we look forward to reviewing applications for the next fiscal year’s funding. Thank you again and may you have success in the coming year.
