Big Sky has significant infrastructure needs—and addressing them will require a mix of funding sources.

In a recent Explore Big Sky column, BSRAD Executive Director Daniel Bierschwale looked at how Big Sky’s rapid growth has outpaced its infrastructure and the need to catch up. In a follow-up column, he turns to the next question: How do we pay for it?

Big Sky has historically relied on a combination of Resort Tax, grants, user fees, private investment and other funding sources to make major community investments. A Targeted Economic Development District, or TEDD, could add another tool to that mix by allowing a portion of future property tax growth within the district to support eligible infrastructure needs.

The Big Sky Way: Another Tool in the Toolbox explains how TEDD and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) work and how they could fit into Big Sky’s broader approach to funding infrastructure.
