In the 5/14/2025 Eggs & Issues, representatives from the Gallatin and Madison County Local Government Study Commissions shared updates and answered questions about their work.

These citizen-led commissions were created following last year’s vote to review local government structures. Their role is to evaluate how county governments operate today, explore alternatives allowed under Montana law, and make recommendations to voters in 2026. During the session, they offered valuable insight into their purpose, what they’re currently studying, and how the public can stay informed and involved throughout the process.

The Local Government Study Commissions meet regularly, and public attendance is encouraged. More information can be found:

Note: This is separate from the Big Sky local governance study, which is exploring options specific to our community—such as incorporation or other governance models.
