Earlier this year, the Montana Legislature passed SB260, giving communities a pathway to adjust or create service district boundaries by ballot. This was an important step—but just the beginning—for Big Sky’s effort to establish a Wellness District dedicated to funding essential health and wellness services for local residents.
The goal is to bring the Wellness District to voters in the May 2026 election. Work is underway in both Gallatin and Madison Counties to prepare ballot measures and meet the requirements needed to move forward.
- Madison County: Efforts are continuing on the withdrawal from the Madison Valley Hospital District and creation of a new district for Big Sky. Both steps require approval from the Madison County Commission before going to voters.
- Gallatin County: Since no hospital district currently exists, the process here focuses on creating a new district. A petition drive is underway to place the Wellness District on the May ballot.
