What’s on the ballot?

The May 5, 2026 Special Purpose District Election will ask Big Sky voters to weigh in on several local governance issues — including electing members to the Big Sky Resort Area District Board and deciding whether to create a new Big Sky Hospital/Wellness District.

This is a mail-only election.

Voters will consider the creation of a public district to support essential health services in Big Sky. Because Big Sky spans two counties, the ballot questions differ slightly.

Madison County Voters

Madison County voters will be asked whether to:

  • Divide the Madison Valley Hospital District to create a Big Sky Hospital District
    • If approved, existing hospital tax dollars would transition to Big Sky over eight years, as outlined in SB260.
  • If the creation of the Big Sky Hospital District is approved, the candidates who filed for trustee positions unopposed would be declared as elected trustees
Gallatin County Voters

Gallatin County voters will be asked whether to:

  • Create a Big Sky Hospital / Wellness District
  • Elect a local board of trustees

If both districts are approved, two coordinated hospital districts — one in each county — would be formed.
