The Resort Tax Board serves on a voluntary basis and oversees all aspects of collection and appropriation of Big Sky's local 3% sales tax. The board meets monthly, reviews applications for funding in May and appropriates funding in June.
Resort Tax Board Members serve a four-year term once elected in a November general election in odd-numbered years. In November 2015, three seats will be on the ballot. Jamey Kabisch, Mike Scholz and Jeff Strickler are concluding their first, four-year terms.
Candidate filing starts at 8a June 22 and closes at 5p August 20. Attached the candidate filing form. The two-page form requires a minimum of five signatures by registered voters who reside in the Big Sky Resort Area District. The candidate may submit the form at the Gallatin County election office (311 W. Main Room 210, Bozeman) and sign in front of the deputy (or if the form is mailed, the candidates signature must be notarized).
Please note, the law states a candidate must reside in the Big Sky Resort Area District (not just be a land owner).
